However, for those of you who have read the previous book, this review will not contain any major spoilers about the book Devoted. Please note: For those of you that haven’t read the first book Elixir this review may contain spoilers about previous plots and characters in the series. It was an interesting experience, especially since I could barely remember what happened in the first book! But luckily about a third of the novel was recapping so some of the details did start to come back to me. To be completely honest I wasn’t very keen on the first book, but I decided to read Devoted anyway as I was curious to see where the storyline would go. This is the second book in the Elixir series that is co-written by the celebrity Hilary Duff and another writer called Elise Allen. I know it makes no sense, neither does this book. Overall Impression: My overall thoughts on this book? Interestingly weird, and weirdly interesting.

5/28/2023 0 Comments Finale by Thomas MallonSet in Dewey's hometown of Owosso, Michigan, this is the captivating story of a local love triangle that mirrors the national election contest. Dewey in the 1948 presidential election - and built around it a midwestern Midsummer Night's Dream. Thomas Mallon has masterfully appropriated a jubilant legend (and famous headline) of modern American history - Harry Truman's upset victory over Thomas E. From a writer whose last book, Henry and Clara, prompted John Updike to declare Thomas Mallon one of the most interesting American novelists at work, comes a story that perfectly captures the delightful romance and wistful magic of our recent, and more innocent, past. 5/28/2023 0 Comments The human condition second editionThe problems Arendt identified then-diminishing human agency and political freedom, the paradox that as human powers increase through technological and humanistic inquiry, we are less equipped to control the consequences of our actions-continue to confront us today. In her study of the state of modern humanity, Hannah Arendt considers humankind from the perspective of the actions of which it is capable. A work of striking originality, The Human Condition is in many respects more relevant now than when it first appeared in 1958. The past year has seen a resurgence of interest in the political thinker Hannah Arendt, "the theorist of beginnings," whose work probes the logics underlying unexpected transformations-from totalitarianism to revolution. 5/28/2023 0 Comments The darkest hour by maya banksTo save her, Ethan will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. Overview of The Darkest Hour (A KGI Novel) Book 5/28/2023 0 Comments The silent companions reviewI have to admit, that it stopped me in my tracks when I saw it, and the keyhole you see on the front, opens to reveal the full portrait of a young woman, who simply stares back at you which is immediately slightly unnerving and sets the tone for the whole novel. The first thing I have to say is, can we all take a few minutes to admire this gorgeous cover? For inside her new home lies a locked room, and beyond that door lies a two-hundred-year-old diary and a deeply unsettling painted wooden figure – a Silent Companion – that bears a striking resemblance to Elsie herself… With her new servants resentful and the local villagers actively hostile, Elsie only has her husband’s awkward cousin for company. Newly married, newly widowed Elsie is sent to see out her pregnancy at her late husband’s crumbling country estate, The Bridge. Over the course of a school year, though, room 117 will experience mayhem, destruction-and maybe even a shot at redemption. Kermit never thought he would actually care about teaching again. The Unteachables never thought they’d find a teacher who had a worse attitude than they did. But the superintendent has his own plans to torpedo that idea-and it involves assigning Mr. After years of phoning it in, he is finally one year away from early retirement. He was once a rising star, but his career was shattered by a cheating scandal that still haunts him. Zachary Kermit, the most burned-out teacher in all of Greenwich. The Unteachables have been removed from the student body and isolated in room 117. Like Aldo, with anger management issues Parker, who can’t read Kiana, who doesn’t even belong in the class-or any class and Elaine (rhymes with pain). The Unteachables are a notorious class of misfits, delinquents, and academic train wrecks. A hilarious new middle grade novel from beloved and bestselling author Gordon Korman about what happens when the worst class of kids in school is paired with the worst teacher-perfect for fans of Ms. 5/28/2023 0 Comments The liveship tradersWe are currently on the second book, and I’m enjoying the series in this format. I loved the first Farseer Trilogy, so much so that I’m listening to the audiobook version on audible with my wife. If you know me and follow me on here you know that I believe Robin Hobb is the best Fantasy writer out there. Robin Hobb’s The Liveship Traders is a masterpiece of fantasy writing and I feel compelled to recommend it to all my friends who enjoy intelligent character driven fantasy literature. The only time I write longer pieces is when I come across a book that really captures my imagination, for example, last month I read The River of Doubt Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey by Candice Millard, a fantastic read filled with danger and adventure rivaling any fictional account. I prefer quick updates on what I’ve read recently, short and to the point, enough to recommend and maybe spur some discussion, but not concise reviews. I don’t write a lot of full-length book reviews. *This series counts as written under a pseudonym bingo square.
